PING 2024

The “Physicists Inspiring the Next Generation: Exploring the Nuclear Matter” (PING 2024) residential program consisted of a summer research experience at the Facility for Rare Isotope Beams (FRIB). Eight undergraduate students from three different states came to Michigan State University to conduct research and learn mentoring techniques. The undergraduates then aided 24 high school students from 12 different states in performing research.

The entirety of PING met each morning at the Kresge Art Center to engage in NucleArt, or nuclear art, where they learned to apply their technical work into art form. After morning NucleArt, they met at the FRIB laboratory. Research in the laboratory was performed until roughly 5pm each day. They shared meals together at the cafeteria and engaged in fun and team building activities. The students compiled their summer work and learned proper presentation skills to present at the PING Workshop, a student and parent/guardian friendly workshop. They also began preparing for future fall and spring conferences.

During the two weeks at Michigan State University the students participated in:

-Higher Education Q&A
